Extract of letter August 9th
We sincerely wish we had not an order on our books, for
we know not what to do, our men are leaving us by dozens
and now our forge and one third of our hpuddling furnaces
are idle for want of men, and we do not know where or
how to replace them. We thought we had filled all your
esteemed orders of October 18th.
We of course do not know how others are situated
but if we cannot procure hands we must shut down.
Will you do us the favor of writing to England and learn
whether we could import some Puddlers & Heaters over here, and on what terms.
