Honorable Mr. Thacher
Thare has been more or less excitement around here and other places on the acount of the recent batle that is now and has been going on at Suffolk for the last seven or eight days but thare has not been any General engagement our felows have been slitely feeling of them until they could get reinforcements suficient to make a clean sweep of them helish hellhounds that had jist a live walk rite up to the mouth of the canon as any thing else and I think before
they get Suffolk they will have to face some of them for we not build
them San Lords for nothing. Although we are not in them our selfs we are not sory that we left for whare our camped was is the out side peket post it has been expected by our ofisers that we would have a brush here their object is to flank our men and get this side and cut off the railroad but our folks are a ware of their capers and we went at it and they pits and build a small fort and have two pieces on it now and are waiting for them to come. We have just drawn out pay up to the first of March and I want to send about a 1,000 dollars to Pennsylvania.
