I have got sow that I can cook
a meals Of vietuels in five minutes
any where in the woods. We always Jan 27, 1863
cary a friiing pan with us and meat
and cofee & Shugar and bread I think Suffolk Ja 27, 63
when I get home I shal be served
Dear Sis
I received your letter last Saturday nite and one from home and a good box of things and of cors I was well andin good cheer and partake freely of the good things sat before me and it operated well sow the next morning I was de on peket for twenty four hours I went and was releaved yesterday about ten o'clock and the rest of the day still feeling well and eating harty. I pitched a few games of quoits at nite I ery sweet being sick. I was waken up a number of times and this morning still. I am all rite and a little beter off than the most of my cumpany for I stayed in to take care of jery and the rest is out a choping and it hapens to rain, jery has been sick a day or two but he is beter this morning. We have two cooks they make our cofee and cok our rice and beens. They are rather nasty. As I had a good chance to write this morning I have scrached off two beside this one. One to Aunt Lib and one to and by the time I get this one done I can eat a good Dinner. Now more to you at presant from the young soldier E. Smith to Mrs. H. Thacher

Our box came through all rite and you talked of sending me a botle of wine but you nede not bother with it. I worke it to get now and then a drink of rye Sow I get along very well we are Choping and diging all the time most sow we are alowed a jill a day but we dont get our dew the ofisers likes it towa well I do not know what they are afraid of here but they are a fortifying this place very strong. Thare has been talk that our redgment is coming back to baltimore for provost guards but I guess it is not sow Lieutenant Miler has got along to us we have not elected our Captain yet. Tell the girls they had beter not scate to much for they will get their ankels lame. You must write every weeak if I dont no more
